This is part 2 of my recap of completing my 30 before 30 list.
I’m so excited to share part 2 of my recap of completing my 30 before 30 list. If you haven’t checked out part 1 where I share all of the things I accomplished in 2013 and 2014, click here!
MEET SOMEONE FAMOUS | JANUARY 23, 2015
I actually met famous people prior to this date, but I chose this date because I had a picture with two cast members from Supernatural. I honestly can’t really name the people I’ve met, and I don’t know why this was so important to me when I made this list, but I’m still holding out hope to meet Taylor Swift.
GO TO A DRIVE-IN MOVIE | APRIL 7, 2015
I’ve always loved the idea and romanticism behind drive-in movies, but, of course, when I went to a drive-in movie, I was actually by myself. I was in Las Colinas, Texas for a work trip, and I had a lot of free time, so I looked up movies at a nearby drive-in called Coyote Drive-In. I went to see the movie, Home, and I enjoyed a glass of wine and snacks while watching the film by myself.
One of my co-workers and I decided to use our tax refund money to go skydiving. This is seriously one of the most wild things I’ve done, and I still can’t believe that I – the biggest scaredy cat when it comes to heights – actually went skydiving. It was an enthralling experience for me, but it was also a one and done experience for me. I’m so happy that I did it, but I don’t think I could ever do it again!
The only reason I ended up going to a music festival was because I specifically wanted to see Marian Hill. I saw that they were playing at Austin City Limits, and it happened to be the only day of the festival that wasn’t sold out. I convinced my sister to go with me, and we seriously had so much fun. We saw so many incredible acts, and we got so tired during the day that we fell asleep on the grass during someone’s set. It was glorious.
GO HORSEBACK RIDING ON THE BEACH | APRIL 5, 2017
Riding a horse on the beach is something that I’ve wanted to do for awhile thanks to my love of Mary-Kate and Ashley. They rode horses on the beach in my favorite of their movies, The Holiday. I never got the opportunity to do so until I was working for Carnival. I actually ended up having so many incredible experiences while working on a cruise ship, and this was just one of them.
I actually got to go horseback riding for free while we were in Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. It was so awesome, and since then, I actually went horseback riding with Kyle for a date night in Cincinnati. It obviously wasn’t on the beach, but it was still an adventure.
SWIM WITH DOLPHINS | MAY 9, 2017
This was another experience I was lucky enough to have while I was working for Carnival. I went with my friend, Sharene, and it was one of the most memorable things I did while working on the ship. It was an excursion that we got to do for free on a private island called Blue Lagoon in Nassau. We got to hang out with the female dolphins and do tricks with them. It was seriously such a good day.
So I’m using the term “climb” extremely loosely here. I never thought I’d actually climb a mountain, as in rock climb. My goal was to hike up a mountain. I never thought I’d be a person that liked to hike, but Kyle has definitely helped me in that department. When we were visiting my best friend from high school, Tra, in Los Angeles, he took us on one of his favorite hikes at Runyon Canyon Park. We hiked up, and it had beautiful views, but I 100% struggled along the way.
GO TO THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA | AUGUST 7, 2018
This had been on my bucket list before it was even finished. I’m grateful that I waited until they replicated Diagon Alley because that ended up being my favorite part of our visit. Don’t get me wrong; I loved both parks, but Diagon Alley was just so special and even more magical to me. Plus, we visited that part first.
Kyle and I visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter when we were moving to Ohio from Louisiana. We took a crazy road trip going to multiple cities in Florida and Charleston, South Carolina then we took a flight to Seattle and back to Charleston before actually heading to Dayton, Ohio. It was such an unforgettable trip, and visiting Harry Potter World was definitely a highlight.
This was actually something that I added to my list later. I never thought about putting it on my 30 before 30 list because it wasn’t something I ever thought about doing. Once I realized that it was something I could do, I quickly added it to the list, replacing surfing because I honestly have no intention of actually trying that out. I’m not a strong swimmer!
Whale watching was seriously so much fun. It was so neat to see all of the whales from afar, but it was also cool getting to see so much other sea life while we were visiting Orcas Island in Washington.
Again, Mary-Kate and Ashley can be thanked for this one. I’m pretty sure they rode jet skis in their Hawaiian Beach Party movie, and I just thought it was so cool! Kyle single-handedly arranged this little adventure for us while we were visiting his sister in Cleveland. He knew it was on my 30 before 30 list, and he wanted to help make it happen. We had so much fun, and I would totally do it again.
TAKE A COOKING CLASS | SEPTEMBER 13, 2019
Once a week, Kyle and I try to do some kind of date night. We alternate who gets to plan it. Sometimes, we stay in and do something low-key and other times we go out and make a big deal out of it. Either way, it forces us to spend quality time together unplugged. Taking a cooking class was one of my date night ideas. I actually included it in a gift that I gave to Kyle where I put a binder together with 12 pre-planned dates. We took the class at Little City Cooking School in Dayton, Ohio, and we made a few Spanish tapas. It was seriously so much fun, and I would love to do another cooking class together.
LEARN ABOUT MY FAMILY HISTORY | NOVEMBER 27, 2019
I always thought it would be so cool to do a DNA sample and get information about myself and family make-up. Kyle and I ended up doing Ancestry.com kits together. He found out that he’s 97% Irish, but my DNA was so neat and all over the place. It also identified that my family immigrated to South Carolina, and I thought that was so cool since the majority of my dad’s side of the family still lives in and around Charleston.
VISIT 25 STATES | DECEMBER 14, 2019
I thought that Virginia was the 25th state that I had visited, but after listing out all of the states I’ve been to, I realized that Virginia is the 26th state I’ve been to, so… I have no idea in what order I’ve visited these states, but here are the 27 states I’ve been to: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.
VISIT WASHINGTON, D.C. | DECEMBER 15, 2019
Having a wedding to go to in Virginia was the perfect excuse for us to also go to Washington, D.C. for my 30th birthday. I let Kyle take the reigns and surprise me with all the planning because I’m usually the one that plans out our vacation itinerary. He did an amazing job putting together so many highlights with things for us to see and do. I realized I never did a proper birthday post describing all of the things we did in D.C., so I’ll have to make up for that (a year later – sheesh!).
I’m so grateful that Kyle helped me mark off the last two things on my 30 before 30 list literally on my birthday. Since I was born after 11 pm, technically I managed to complete all 30 things on my list right before I officially turned 30.
Kyle took me to a Michelin Star restaurant in D.C. called Kinship. It was seriously the most incredible food I’ve ever eaten in my life. It was such a perfect way to start my 30th year. I’m so grateful that he was able to pull off getting us reservations and creating that memory for us.
What’s something you’d like to accomplish before your next birthday?
