Check out all of my monthly and yearly 2020 goals!
It’s so crazy to think that, not only has 2019 come to an end, but also an entire decade is coming to an end. The 2010s were an absolute whirlwind of beauty, heartbreak, passion, and growth for me, and I’m certain that the next decade is going to be nothing short of incredible.
One of my favorite things about the ending of a year is reflecting on all of the things that went right and also some of the things that didn’t go so great. With that comes the opportunity to continue to grow and make changes for the better. I love making goals for the new year and challenging myself to be better.
For 2020, I’ve chosen my word of the year to be LOVE.
First and most importantly, I want to love myself. I want to prioritize self-care and my mental health. I want to exude confidence, believe in myself, and just overall be fully in love with me.
Being away from friends and family is so tough sometimes, especially with all of the constant changes in my life. My goal for 2020 is to love my friends and fam extra hard, even from afar.
I want to show love to strangers. I want to be more kind and giving. I also want to volunteer and spread my love to as many people as I can in a meaningful way.
In 2019, I decided to give myself monthly goals where I had to complete that goal everyday during the duration of that month. Some months were more successful than others, but every month, I accepted and embraced the new challenge as much as I could. For 2020, I decided to do the same thing. I switched up most of them and kept the ones that I believe will continue to help me grow even more in the new year.
HYDRATED JANUARY
There are no cool water-related words that begin with a J, so I named the first month of the year Hydrated January. I’m so bad about keeping myself hydrated and drinking a healthy amount of water each day. My goal for January is to drink 8 cups of water everyday, and hopefully I’ll continue that trend throughout the rest of the year.
FRIEND FEBRUARY
Keeping in theme with my word of the year, February will focus on communicating with my friends and family members. My goal is to call, text, send a letter to, or hang out with a friend or someone in my family everyday during the month of February.
MILE MARCH
In March, my goal is focus a little more on cardio. I want to walk, jog, or a run a mile everyday.
AWESOME APRIL
During April, I’d like to focus on sharing some positivity. In April, I plan to share something positive about my day everyday on social media, most likely on my Insta Stories.
MUNICIPALITY MAY
This was a goal I had in 2019, and it was the perfect way to get acquainted with our home in Dayton. In 2020, Kyle and I will be calling a new city home, and I’d like to do the same thing there by getting out and experiencing something new everyday.
JOURNAL JUNE
This was a goal I had last year as well, and I’d like to try to prioritize it throughout the year, but I’m definitely focusing on it in June. During this month, I plan to write in my journal everyday.
JUICY JULY
In July, I’ll be focusing more on my relationship with Kyle by asking some juicy questions. Everyday, we’ll ask each other a deep question that will spark discussion and help us get to learn even more about each other. We’ve been together for almost three years, but I’m a big believer in that we’ll always need to keep dating each other, growing together, and learning from and about each other.
ASANA AUGUST
Ya girl is going to try her hand at meditation. Everyday during August, I’ll spend at least 10 minutes of my day meditating.
SWEAT SEPTEMBER
I’m going to get my sweat on in September and work out everyday during the month. I tried to do this in 2019, but it was a huge fail. My hope is that by putting it at the end of the year, I’ll already have some kind of established routine, so working out for a whole month won’t be a huge shock to my body.
ORGANIZE OCTOBER
As Kyle says, “There’s never a bad time to get organized.” This will include organizing our home and getting rid of things I don’t need, but I also want to organize my electronics by consolidating files and making things easier to find.
NOVEL NOVEMBER
Even though I get to experience books all the time thanks to audio books, I miss making the time for reading a book the traditional way. In November, my goal is to take time to read everyday.
DECEMBER
In December, I’m not going to create any goals. Instead, I’ll be focusing on myself because it’s my birthday month and also focusing on the holiday season.
I also have a few goals that I would like to complete at any time during the year.
TRAVEL GOALS
— Travel to five states (not necessarily new ones): Kyle and I will be moving to a state I’ve never visited in April of next year, but unlike Dayton, Ohio, it’s not an easy place to road trip from. I know that I’ll be focusing on school and student teaching next year, so I want to make travel a priority, but I also want to be realistic about limitations.
— Go to five concerts or live shows: I’m already planning on going to the Lover tour in July in Boston, and I also have a girls trip planned for February where I’ll be going to a Broadway show in New York. I’m excited to see what other concerts and live shows I’ll get to experience next year.
BLOG/YOUTUBE GOALS
— Get involved with the local blogging community: Since Kyle and I will be moving next year, my hope is that the place we’ll be living will have an active blogging community for me to get involved with. The one I was involved with in Dayton pretty much teetered out, so I wasn’t able to get as actively involved in the community as I wanted to.
— Monetize my YouTube channel: I had so much fun participating in Vlogmas this year, and I hope to continue filming and publishing videos, enough to earn some money from it, even if it’s just pennies.
— Publish two YouTube videos per month
OTHER GOALS
— Graduate from college: At the rate I’m currently going, I should be graduating in December 2020.
— Do the PopSugar reading challenge: I’ve always wanted to do the PopSugar reading challenge, but have opted out so that I could create other reading challenges for myself. This year, I decided to finally take it on, and I’m so excited about all the prompts they have.
— Host a get-together at my home: I’m hoping to make some new friends after Kyle and I move next year and have them over for a fun get-together. I just love being a host and inviting people into my home.
— Join a monthly get-together club: I would love to find a book club or brunch club or something of the sort after Kyle and I move.
— Journal once a week
What are some of your goals for 2020?
