Spook up your house with these four easy DIY Halloween decorations!
I love decorating for Halloween, and this year, I went a little crazy with it. I created a spooky Halloween mantle with lots of decorations I found in the Target Dollar Spot. Then I got inspired to make some decorations of my own. There are so many incredible creatives on the Internet who have made some spooky and amazing printables perfect for Halloween, and I incorporated a few of those into some of my DIY decorations.
APOTHECARY BOTTLES
Materials:
— Wine bottles
— Black spray paint
— Mod Podge and paintbrush
— Apothecary bottle printables
Directions:
1. Remove the labels on your wine bottles. You can easily do this by soaking them in a hot water, vinegar, and Dawn soap mixture. Leave them in there for at least an hour. Some labels will come off easier than others.
2. After cleaning your bottles and letting them dry, spray paint the bottles with the black spray paint.
3. Once the bottles have dried, use the Mod Podge and paintbrush to adhere the labels to the wine bottles. I used the Mod Podge on the back and front of the labels.
4. Let the Mod Podge dry, and use it for a spooky display!
HALLOWEEN BOUQUET
Materials:
— Empty bottle (I used an empty bottle of vitamins)
— Cream spray paint
— Black paint and paintbrush
— Black and purple flowers
1. If needed, remove the label from your empty bottle.
2. Spray paint the bottle using the cream spray paint.
3. Once it has dried completely, use the paintbrush and black paint to create a spooky bottle. I made a Jack-o-lantern, but you can also paint a cat or any other Halloween design.
4. Place the flowers in the vase, and voila!
SPOOKY BOOKS
Materials:
— 2 paperback books
— Black paint and paintbrush
— Mod Podge and paintbrush
— Book label printables
— Twine
Directions:
1. Remove the entire cover of both books, including the back and sides. On one book, rip the pages out until you get to the page with the first chapter.
2. Using the black paint and paintbrush, cover the top, bottom, and side (the side with the binding) of the book that just had the cover ripped off. With the book that is showing the first chapter, just paint the side and the back. Leave the loose pages on both pages as they are.
3. Let the paint dry. The tops may curl. If they do, place something heavy on them to flatten them out.
4. Using the Mod Podge and paintbrush, adhere the spooky book titles to the side. I used Mod Podge on both the front and back of the labels. There are several different words to choose from on the printable. I used “Ghost Stories” and “Spells.”
5. Once everything has dried, use twine to tie the books together. Place the book that shows the first chapter on top. Then you’re done!
TRICK-OR-TREAT TRAY
Materials:
— Plastic tray (I found this one with bats at Dollar Tree)
— 3 plastic cups (You can get a set of 3 at Dollar Tree)
— Cream spray paint (This is the same one I used in the Halloween Bouquet tutorial)
— Hot glue gun
— Trick or Treat printable
— Clear packaging tape
— Bowl with hot water
Directions:
1. Using the cream spray paint, spray paint the plastic tray and all three plastic cups, and let them dry. It may take a couple coats.
2. While the trays are drying, fill a bowl with hot water.
3. Cut out your Trick or Treat words individually then place them with the ink side down on top of individual pieces of packaging tape. Push them down super duper extra to make sure the ink will stick to the tape.
4. Place your words in the hot water, and let them soak for about 60 seconds.
5. Take them out of the water and slowly peel the tape off. If you notice the ink isn’t sticking to the tape, push the paper and tape together even harder and let it soak in the water again.
6. Lay the words with the sticky side up out so it can dry. The tape will become sticky again.
7. Back to your tray and cups – Once those are completely dry, use the hot glue gun to glue the cups onto the tray.
8. Once your words are dry, tape them onto the cups, and then your done! Feel free to fill them with candy or spooky decor, such as black flowers or spiderwebs and spiders.
