When Kyle and I were first discussing getting a dog (read: when I was heavily trying to convince Kyle that we needed a dog), I told him that I wanted to pick the saddest looking dog that was missing an eye or a leg or had a strange skin condition, etc. etc. because I wanted to rescue a dog that just needed that extra love so I could spoil it for the rest of its life. Instead of that, we ended up getting the cutest pup in the shelter because we just had an instant connection, and he really did look like the saddest boy.
If you know me at all, you know that I’m pretty much obsessed with my dog. His name is Gunther. He’s (allegedly) seven-years-old. We adopted him in January from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. The Humane Society snatched him up from a kill-shelter in Kentucky that was closing, but he was originally a stray on the streets of ole Kentucky. We have no idea how old he actually is or how long he spent as a stray or in the shelter in Kentucky. As soon as he came to me when I called him over in his little cage, I knew he was the one I wanted. Kyle had a little doubt about my assurance, but that soon went away. Gunther has been such a light in our lives since day one. He seriously brightens my worst days, and he always knows when I need a cuddle or a kiss. He isn’t the smartest boy or the best listener, but he is the sweetest boy, and he’s changed our lives just as much as we’ve changed his.
With all that love, I can’t help but always want to spoil my little pooch. He loves being outside, so we try to make sure we take him on lots of long walks, hikes, and to the dog park. He loveloveloves treats (as do most dogs), so I try to make him some homemade dog treats, and I fill up his Kong with peanut butter every once in awhile. He’s also commandeered one of my favorite blankets and made it his own. He loves to burrow and cuddle up under his blanket, and as cozy as that is, a dog bed is even cozier.
Kyle and I got Gunther’s first dog bed from TJ Maxx, but it has definitely seen better days. That’s why I was so excited to try La-Z Boy’s new line of pet beds. If you’ve ever sat on a La-Z Boy chair, you know how freakin’ comfortable those things are. Doesn’t your dog deserve the same amount of comfort? I know ours does. Gunther is already a good sleeper, but I’ve definitely noticed how deep of a sleeper he’s become in his new bed. One thing I love about Gunther is how he sleeps. He initially falls asleep in a little donut shape, just curled into a little ball, but when he’s getting his best sleep, he’s sprawled on his back, paws spread out and snoring. Sometimes he sleeps so hard under his blanket that we have to dig him out and check to make sure he’s still breathing because he’s just so cozy on his little La-Z Boy pet bed.
Beyond the comfort and coziness, La-Z Boy pet beds are pretty dang stylish. The designers actually kept in mind how these beds would fit into your household and match your decor. They have several different designs to choose from, so you’re sure to find a bed that matches any room in your home. We spend most of our day in the living room, so Gunther’s La-Z Boy pet bed is gray, which matches our couch. Even though he doesn’t care about how cute and coordinated his bed is in the living room, we sure do, and I’m so glad that the La-Z Boy designers kept this in mind when choosing fabrics for their pet beds.
I already mentioned that Gunther is an older dog, so sleep is a huge part of his daily regimen. He’s the most well-rested boy you’ll ever meet. Unfortunately, Kyle and I have super busy schedules, so we’re usually in and out of the house all day, so when we’re not there, he’s likely sleeping. Sometimes, he can get a little jumpy when he hears people outside of the apartment door or when car alarms go off, so having a bed that allows him to sleep through the hustle and bustle of life outside of the apartment instead of having separation anxiety and whining until we get home is super, super important to us. We want him to feel comfortable when we’re not around, and his La-Z Boy pet bed definitely helps him sleep off some of that separation anxiety, and then he has lots of extra energy for playtime when we’re finally home for the day.
One of the things I love most about the new La-Z Boy pet beds is that they are extremely easy to clean. All you have to do is unzip the fabric, pop it in the washer, and that’s it! As much as I love my Gunther, I don’t love his dog hair getting everywhere, so an easy to clean bed is the perfect way for us to spoil our favorite pooch.
