In today’s friDIARY post, I’m sharing some of my upcoming travel plans!
Other than a trip to Chicago and a friend reunion in Cincinnati, the past couple weeks have been pretty uneventful. I’ve spent a lot of time behind my computer screen flip-flopping back and forth between school and blogging. What’s been keeping me going is the thought of my upcoming travel plans. Now that the weather is nice and warm, I’m getting excited about spending time outside, especially in new places.
TRAVEL
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that Kyle and I spent the last weekend of March in Chicago. It was only my second time going to Chicago, and I absolutely loved it. I got to meet two of Kyle’s best friends from high school, and I also got to reunite with my friend, Kelsey, who I met while working at a summer camp in college. I have a full blog post comin’ atcha next week, but for now, here’s a few photos from our trip. I took so many pics that I absolutely lovelovelove. I can’t wait to photo dump in the Chicago post π
Kyle and I also sat down earlier this week to sketch out a rough plan for travels for the rest of the year. I’m hoping to achieve my goal of visiting five new states:
— KENTUCKY: We’re planning on going to the Kentucky Derby next month, and that will be my first time going to Kentucky. I have no idea what to expect, but I’m excited!
— COLORADO: We also have a wedding to go to in June that’s in Colorado. I’ve never gone to Colorado, but I have a few friends that live in Denver, and Kyle went to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, so I’m looking forward to some reunions and also getting to see where Kyle went to school.
— WEST VIRGINIA: West Virginia is a relatively short drive away. Even though neither of us know anything about West Virginia, neither of us have ever been, so we figured we may as well take a weekend road trip there to cross it off the list. We’re planning on visiting West Virginia in July.
— VIRGINIA: As a military brat and high-key proud American, I’m disappointed in myself for not having visited Washington, D.C. before. Kyle and I plan to make a trip down to do some exploring. I also have a friend that lives there, so hopefully I’ll get to meet up with her too! One of my 30 before 30 goals is to eat at a Michelin Star Restaurant, so crossing my fingers we’ll get to do that while we’re in town. We’re aiming for a trip to Virginia/D.C. in September.
— MISSOURI: Kyle and I have a friend that lives in Kansas, so Missouri is the midway point for us. We’re hoping to meet up in St. Louis and see what it’s about, but we’re mostly looking forward to a friend reunion. This will also be a September trip. Big September travel plans – whoop whoop!
Another one of my travel goals for the year is to travel outside of the country. I’ve never been to Canada, and since I live closer to it than I ever have before, it’s the perfect opportunity to make a trip. We’re hoping to visit sometime in November, and Kyle is going to (fingers crossed) teach me how to snowboard. We’ll see how that goes. I’m not super good at anything that deals with sports, besides watching other people play them.
We’re also working on exploring more of the cities close to us, particularly Columbus and Cincinnati. We’re planning on taking a day trip to Columbus tomorrow, and hopefully we’ll make plans to do that in Cincinnati as well. I can’t wait to share some fun travel posts with y’all.
REUNION
One of my friends and former co-workers from Louisiana, Menda, was in Cincinnati last week for a training, so we met up for dinner and drinks. It was so nice getting to catch up and also visit a restaurant I had never been to before. We went to deSha’s on a recommendation from a local blog friend named Taylor at CinCityChic. Kyle and I haven’t spent much time in Cincinnati, so we loved having an excuse to drive down and try something new. Everything we had was delicious, especially the Bacon & Blue Cheese Dip and Spinach & Artichoke Dip appetizers. They also serve complimentary cornbread, and even though I’m not a big fan of cornbread, theirs was actually super good.
SCHOOL
I’ve been flying through my American Literature class and actually enjoying it more than the Philosophy and Nutrition pre-requisites I’ve already taken. Philosophy was fascinating, but I am such a huge fan of the written word, so I’m loving my American lit class. I’m almost through with all my lessons (just two chapters to go!) then I’ll have two essays to write and a proctored final to take before I start working on my Chemistry Lab class.
What travel plans are you looking forward to this year?
