My boyfriend and I are big fans of ordering in and watching Netflix, but there are so many things going on during the winter season that it almost pains me to stay inside so much. I say “almost” because I’m always cold, so it’s hard to be upset about a warm cuddle sesh. #amiright?
VOLUNTEER AT A LOCAL SHELTER
I’m a huge advocate for volunteering, and I honestly believe that volunteering with someone you love will bring you closer together.
GO ICE-SKATING
Bundle up, hold hands and use each other for support (or to break your fall).
GO LOOK AT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
In north Louisiana, we have a Holiday Trail of Lights, and I love going to Natchitoches (about an hour drive) to go see their Christmas lights. It’s so worth the little trip. You can also drive around neighborhoods and see how creative your fellow locals get with their Christmas decorations.
HAVE A CHRISTMAS MOVIE MARATHON
Pull out all the classics and cozy up together for a movie marathon.
BAKE CHRISTMAS COOKIES
As if you actually need an excuse to bake and eat sweets together. You can also have a cookie decorating contest to see who can make the most delicious-looking sweet treats.
BUILD A GINGERBREAD HOUSE
Is this a semi-gateway into building an actual house together? Not at all? Okay then.
GO TO A CHRISTMAS SHOW
There are always local Christmas shows going on. Whether it’s a Christmas concert or a local play, see what’s going on in your area and have a Christmas night out.
DO YOUR HOLIDAY SHOPPING TOGETHER
I’m not a fan of shopping, but I do enjoy shopping for Christmas gifts (unless I get stressed out about it). Have a productive date night and do your holiday shopping together. Bounce ideas off of each other and get all your Christmas shopping done.
PUT UP YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE
I love putting up the Christmas tree. I always have the Christmas tunes on, and it’s so fun to do together.
GO TO A HOLIDAY EVENT
Cities tend to step up their game when it comes to the holiday season. Check your tourist bureau site to see what fun holiday events are going on in your area.
TAKE PICTURES WITH SANTA
Because you’re never too old to take pictures with Santa.
GO TO A KARAOKE BAR AND SING CHRISTMAS SONGS
A “Baby It’s Cold Outside” duet is a must!
MAKE EACH OTHER CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
This would be such a cute tradition to do every year.
HAVE A DANCE PARTY WITH A CHRISTMAS PLAYLIST
Jam out to “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” and other fun Christmas favorites.
HOST A CHRISTMAS PARTY
Don your ugly Christmas sweaters, spike the holiday punch, put on some Christmas tunes, invite over your favorite people and celebrate the holiday.
COZY UP BY A FIRE
There’s never a bad time for a good cuddle sesh, especially when a cozy fire is involved.
HAVE A PAINT AND WINE NIGHT
You can either go to a local paint and wine place or you can do this at home. Find a YouTube video, gather all the supplies, pour some wine and get to painting.
GO TO THE OPERA
Check your local listings and see what operas are coming to town.
GO BOWLING
I forget how much I enjoy bowling until I go bowling. I’m by no means good at it, but it’s such a friendly, competitive sport to do for date night.
JUMP ON INDOOR TRAMPOLINES
This is such a fun thing to do, and I wish I did it more often. Not only are you having a blast together, you’re also burning a ton of calories. Win-win, right?
RENT A CABIN FOR A WEEKEND GETAWAY
Even if you’re renting a cabin just right outside of town, it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life and just be together, especially in nature.
BUILD AN INDOOR FORT
You’re never too old for an indoor fort, #amiright?!
TAKE DANCE LESSONS TOGETHER
This is such a fun activity to do together, and you can even practice when you’re at home.
GO ON A CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR
Some people go all out for the holidays, and it’s so cool to see how creative and boisterous people get with their Christmas decorations.
PUT TOGETHER CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR PEOPLE IN NEED
The holidays are all about giving, and it feels nice to give to people who are less fortunate than you. Open your heart (and your wallet, I suppose) to people who need it most.
TAKE A COOKING CLASS
Cooking dates are always fun, and beyond that, being able to learn how to make a dish together is even more fun.
GO TO AN ESCAPE ROOM
I love escape rooms. I think I’ve mentioned that a time or two.
GO TO A HOCKEY GAME
I’ve never actually been to a hockey game, but I imagine that it would be a fun date night. I’ve been wanting to go see our local team for years.
GO TO AN ART MUSEUM
Art museums are a fun date night idea year-round, and I especially love when they create Christmas-themed displays.
GO TO A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
I love drive-in movies, but unfortunately we don’t have any in Louisiana. If you have one in your area, it’s definitely a fun date idea!
What are some of your favorite ways to spend date night during the winter?
