Let’s be honest. Fall is when all the best TV shows come back on, and there’s no shortage of amazing shows coming back this season. It drives me crazy to wait a week before watching a new episode, but there are some exceptions to the rule, namely Game of Thrones and Supernatural. I usually wait awhile before I catch up with the times and watch the TV shows that everyone else has been talking about for years. I just started season 6 of Grey’s Anatomy. I was very late to that bandwagon.
If you’re like me, and you like to wait a couple seasons so you can binge watch a show before you torture yourself with the whole waiting a week between every episode thing, then boy, do I have a list of shows for you.
SUPERNATURAL
I am obsessed with this show, and I will forever be loyal to it. Twelve seasons later, and I’m still in love with the Winchesters. If you haven’t watched it before (because you’re a crazy person), it follows the Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, who spend their life fighting the supernatural and saving the world.
If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know I went to Supernatural Con and got to meet several of the characters and sing “Baby Got Back” on stage with six actors/actresses from the show. I still get giddy when I think about it. You can click here, here, and here to read more about my experiences.
Season 13 of Supernatural began on October 12th, and you can watch it Thursdays on The CW at 7 pm CT. Seasons 1-12 are available for streaming on Netflix.
MODERN FAMILY
I’m ashamed to say that I just started watching Modern Family last year. I had seen the occasional episode here and there and loved it, but I sat down and watched it from the beginning just last year. I love every single freaking character. They’re all amazing in their own ways.
The show follows a huge extended family, and it’s hilarious, and I feel like that’s all the information you need because you’ll fall in love from the first episode.
Season 9 of Modern Family began on September 27th, and you can watch it Wednesdays on ABC at 8 pm CT.
JANE THE VIRGIN
I remember when this show first came out, and I was convinced that I wouldn’t like it. Boy, was I wrong. I started watching it randomly when I was sick in bed one day. I binge-watched the first season in two days. When the second season was made available, I did the same so I could catch up on season three. It’s such a hilarious show. It follows Jane who was accidentally inseminated with the sperm of her boss, Rafael. It only gets crazier and more amazing from there. So. Much. Drama.
Season 4 of Jane the Virgin began on October 13th, and you can watch it Fridays on The CW at 8 pm CT. Seasons 1-3 are available for streaming on Netflix.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
Shonda Rhimes can do no wrong in my eyes, so if her name is attached to something, get ready for a whole lot of awesome. Admittedly, I still need to catch up on season three, but if you haven’t started this show, I know for a fact you’ll get hooked on the first two seasons.
The show follows Annalise Keaton who teaches a defense law class called “How to Get Away with Murder.” She chooses a group of students to assist her with cases from her own firm, and then the craziness just unfolds from there.
Season 4 of HTGAWM began on September 28th, and you can watch it Thursdays on ABC at 9 pm CT. Seasons 1-3 are available for streaming on Netflix.
BOJACK HORSEMAN
My boyfriend put this show on randomly one day, and I surprised myself by actually liking it. All of the characters are amazing in their own ways, and I have a special place in my heart for Princess Carolyn. I tried to describe this show to my co-workers, and in no way, shape, or form did it make them want to watch it (mostly because it was me saying it’s a cartoon where some of them are humans and some of them are life-sized animals with human bodies). It’s actually pretty hilarious, but there are also some episodes that get real, real deep, especially in the latest season. Talk about tugging at the heartstrings.
Season 4 of BoJack Horseman became available for streaming on Netflix on September 8th. Seasons 1-3 are also available for streaming.
FULLER HOUSE
If you grew up watching Full House, you’re sure to be a fan of Fuller House. It has the same cheesy jokes and heartfelt moments you remember from Full House with some modern day references and quirks. It follows the life of DJ Tanner living with her two best friends, her sister, Stephanie, and her childhood friend, Kimmy Gibbler, along with their children and sometimes extended families. Members of the old cast also make frequent appearances (Can we talk about how Lori Laughlin somehow got even more gorgeous with age?! Same with Candace Cameron. #goals).
Season 3 of Fuller House became available for streaming on Netflix on September 22nd. Seasons 1 and 2 are also available for streaming.
STRANGER THINGS
I watched the entire first season of Stranger Things when I was on vacation with my family, which just goes to show how freaking amazing it is. I woke up early and stayed up late just to watch it. It was worth the loss of sleep. If you haven’t heard of Stranger Things, you’ve obviously been living under a rock it’s about a boy named Will who goes missing, and the determination of his three best friends and his mom to find him. There’s a bunch of supernatural hullabaloo that’s equality insane and incredible.
Season 2 of Stranger Things will be available to stream on Netflix on October 27th. Season 1 is currently available for streaming.
THIS IS US
I had a mild obsession with Mandy Moore growing up. Between her music videos, her mean girl role in The Princess Diaries, and the ugly tears I cried watching her in A Walk to Remember, she’s always had a special place in my heart. I knew I was going to like This Is Us simply because she and Milo Ventimiglia were going to star in it. So far, this show has not disappointed me, and I’m near tears every time I put it on the screen.
The show follows the lives of three children born on the same day, two are twins and one is adopted – The Big Three. It’s told both during present time and with a series of flashbacks. Both present day and the past intrigue me. The writers of this show are absolutely brilliant.
Season 2 of This Is Us began on September 26th, and you can watch it on Tuesdays on NBC at 8 pm CT. Season 1 is available for streaming on Hulu.
RIVERDALE
I had never actually heard of this show, but Netflix recommended it to me, so I decided to give it a whirl. It wasn’t until the end of the second episode that I realized all of the characters were based on characters from the Archie comics, and this was only because of Jughead and Josie and the Pussycats. You would think that Betty, Veronica, and Archie would tip me off, but no.
Riverdale follows the characters from the comics, namely Betty, Veronica, Archie, and Jughead, but the show is much darker than I would have expected it to be, in a good way. I love this show even more because they’re also doing a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot as a companion series, and it’ll have darker undertones just like Riverdale, which means there’s sure to be some crossover.
Season 2 of Riverdale began on October 11th, and you can watch it on Wednesdays on The CW at 7 pm CT. Season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix.
THE GOOD PLACE
This show is only on its second season, and I binge watched the first season in about three days. It’s a cute show that follows Kristen Bell’s character, Eleanor, who was sent to “the good place” after she died. She soon figures out that they somehow switched the events of her life with someone else’s and realizes that she actually belongs in “the bad place.” If you’re a fan of Kristen Bell, you’ll enjoy this show. It’s quirky, ironic, and there’s so many twists and turns, including the big revelation in the season finale.
Season 2 of The Good Place began on September 20th, and you can watch it Thursdays on NBC at 7:30 pm CT. Season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix.
HATERS BACK OFF!
I’m not going to say I’m a huge fan of Miranda, but I am a huge fan of Colleen. Her YouTube videos are so fun, and I love watching her vlogs because she’s actually a normal human and portrays that on all of her channels. I’ve been keeping up with Colleen’s life for years (and I mean that in the non-creepiest way). I watch a Miranda video every now and again, but I love Colleen as a human more than I love the character she created.
When the first season of Haters Back Off! came out, my friend, Bryce, and I sat in front of the TV and ate ice-cream while watching it. If you’re a fan of Miranda and/or Colleen, you’re sure to enjoy the show. It’s dumb in a hilarious sort of way, and I mean that in the best way possible.
Season 2 of Haters Back Off! will be available for streaming on Netflix on October 20th. Season 1 is currently available for streaming.
