Read why my new happy place is Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas!
If you’ve been following my blog for the past couple of years, you know that I’ve proudly claimed the beach outside of Rome as my happy place ever since I visited. I associate so much happiness with that beach, and being able to share it with my sister makes the memories I made there that much more special.
At this point I ought to claim beaches in general as my happy places because I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the beach at Half Moon Cay. As I write this, I’ve visited three times now, and each time I squish my toes in the sand and dip my toes in the water, the feeling of elation (if you will) just washes over me.
Working on a cruise ship means that I don’t get a day off. It’s hard for me to explain my schedule because it’s always changing, but essentially, I just get pockets of time off each day. When I’m lucky enough to have a morning and/or afternoon off when we’re at port in Half Moon Cay, I jump at the opportunity to go.
Half Moon Cay is actually an island owned by Carnival, so no other ships dock there, and only guests and crew from Carnival ships visit the island. This means it’s never crowded, and when you go, you’re expecting to just experience the beach. There aren’t any tourist traps or shopping or anything like that. You’re truly going to enjoy the beach, and that’s exactly what I do.
I’ve spent hours writing, reading, swimming and snacking in Half Moon Cay. It’s nice to walk along the beach and see fish, stingrays and other sea creatures in the ocean. The water is so blue and beautiful. It’s honestly breathtaking, and even on the days that I lose sleep just to go to the beach, I have no regrets because it’s always worth it.
What makes it extra special is that I probably would never have visited Half Moon Cay without this job, and for that I’m grateful. It’s definitely earned its spot as my new happy place.
