My favorite season is finally here! It’s time for cooler weather (that’ll come later for us Louisianians), fall TV, pumpkin-flavored everything and living the cozy life. I’m particularly excited to don my scarves and wear the crap out of my boots and sweaters.
The beginning of fall always gives me a cozy vibe. I have daily debates about weather I want to go out and socialize or go home and cozy up with a good book, some hot cocoa and my favorite mellow tunes. These are a few songs that I’ll have on repeat this season.
I HATE THAT PART – CAROLINE GLASER
I’ve mentioned Caroline Glaser a time or two on here, and I’m mentioning her again because I continue to be amazed by her voice. She was actually on The Voice. Didn’t win, but she was one of my favorites from that season. She just came out with her first full-length album, and even though I could have easily included all of her songs on this list, I picked this one because the message resonates with me and my upcoming adventure so much.
Favorite lyrics: “I made up my mind a long time ago that Iโd travel this whole world alone. Been to cities been to towns and back. Been on gravel roads and railroad tracks.”
RUN AWAY – LEIGHTON MEESTER
I first fell in love with Leighton’s voice when I watched Country Strong. I loved her country vibe, but I also love the mellow vibe she has on her full-length album. When I participated in NaNoWriMo, Leighton’s album was my go-to to get in the mood for writing, and I even included it on my NaNoWriMo playlist.
Favorite lyrics: “We can make it back to when it was a lullaby, if only we try. I’m not giving up for anyone or anything. I’ll stay by your side.”
SLOW DANCING IN A BURNING ROOM – JOHN MAYER
John Mayer has been a favorite of mine for years, and his earlier albums are my favorite. When I was in college, I saw him live in Austin, and he was so incredible.
Favorite lyrics: “This is the deep and dyin’ breath of this love we’ve been workin’ on.”
GEORGIA – VANCE JOY
I met Vance Joy when he was a guest at our hotel, and I also saw him open for Taylor Swift in Chicago. I love how he just came out of nowhere and blew the world away with his voice. I just heard this song for the first time yesterday, and I can already tell it’ll be on repeat this fall.
Favorite lyrics: “And I could easily lose my mind. The way you kiss me will work each time.”
BUBBLY – COLBIE CAILLAT
An oldie, but goodie. Colbie Caillat will always make me smile. If you haven’t listened to “Blaze” and “If You Love Me Let Me Go” from her album Gypsy Heart, do yourself a favor and go listen to it now.
Favorite lyrics: “It starts in my soul, and I lose all control. When you kiss my nose, the feelin’ shows. Cause you make me smile, baby, just take your time holdin’ me tight.”
I GOT YOU – JACK JOHNSON
I’ve been listening to Jack Johnson since middle school, but not regularly. This song popped up on my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify, and it caught my eye ear.
Favorite lyrics: “This weight’s too much alone. Some days I can’t hold it at all. You take it on for me. When tomorrow’s too much, I’ll carry it all. I got you.”
YOU GIVE ME SOMETHING – JAMES MORRISON
Another oldie, but also one of my forever favorites. This is one of my top love songs. It just gives me all the feels because it’s so real. James gets me.
Favorite lyrics: “You give me something that makes me scared alright. This could be nothing, but I’m willing to give it a try.”
MEMOIR – CAMERON BEDELL
This song is a new favorite, and it’s another one that I discovered thanks to Discover Weekly. Sometimes, Spotify just knows. I love the message behind this song, remembering all the good times and bad times. I would love to use this song in some kind of memory video montage.
Favorite lyrics: “Iโve spent half my life trying to get it all right. Iโve been low on cash, drunk off my ass and high a couple times. Yet the good exceeds the bad. All the friends Iโve ever had help me to grow. All the rest I know came from choices, faults and pasts.”
DAYDREAM – TORI KELLY
My friend, Anamaria, shared this song to me, and I fell in love with it immediately. The message resonates so much with me. It’s basically about figuring out who you are and not getting in your own way so you can follow your dreams.
Favorite lyrics: “You don’t have to know exactly who you are because figuring it all out could be the best part.”
KIDS AGAIN – ARTIST VS POET
Another Spotify recommendation. This song switches perspective between a guy and a girl pointing out the difficulties and “flaws” of the other and the chorus reflects on just being a kid again.
Favorite lyrics: “Still we laugh. We cry. We fall. We get high…And when I’m feeling small, you get me through it all just like we were kids, just like we were kids again.”
BROTHER – NEEDTOBREATHE FEAT. GAVIN DEGRAW
I just love everything about this song – the artists, the sound, the lyrics. I saw NEEDTOBREATHE live when I was in college, and I continue to love them.
Favorite lyrics: “I ain’t made for rivalry. I could never take the world alone. I know that in my weakness I am stronger. It’s your love that brings me home.”
What songs will you be cozying up with this fall?
