I use the phrase “guilty pleasure” loosely, because to be honest, I have no shame admitting that I love these songs (obviously, because if I did I definitely wouldn’t be sharing the list publicly online). The songs on my guilty pleasure playlist have a plethora of reasons for being there. Some are extremely inappropriate. Some have a target audience of a 13-year-old. Some are related to Harry Potter (many are, actually). But I have no shame in loving any of them.
My guilty pleasure playlist is full of songs that I wouldn’t put on in the car when there are other people with me, but if I’m alone, you better believe the song is blasting, and I’m singing along to every lyric.
RUMORS – LINDSAY LOHAN
I’m not going to lie – I loved a lot of Lindsay Lohan’s songs before she fell off the deep end. I jammed out to “Ultimate” and “Over,” but I especially loved listening to “Rumors.” It was just a fun song to dance to and act like I understood what it was like living the spotlight. This song was sung into my hairbrush on many occasions.
NOTHING IN THIS WORLD – PARIS HILTON
Paris Hilton’s singing “career” was short-lived, and there’s an obvious reason for that, but I have to admit that this one song that didn’t slip through the cracks for me. I can’t explain to you why I enjoy listening to this song so much, but I do, even though the music video is kind of awkward.
MADE IN AMERICA – CIMORELLI
I still can’t decide if I’m in the age range that should be a fan of Cimorelli or not. Most of their covers are a hit or miss for me, and I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the majority of their original stuff, but there are some songs that I truly love by them, like “Wings” and “You’re Worth It.” “Made in America” doesn’t have a powerful message like the aforementioned songs, but I love how fun this song is. Plus it talks about loving the good ole USA, and I’m always down for showing love to this country.
OH, BO – BO BURNHAM
This song is extremely inappropriate, but for some reason, I really enjoy it. I used to watch Bo Burnham when YouTube was just starting to take off. I lost track of him when he started doing comedy shows, but last year, I rediscovered some of his newer stuff, and while there are only three songs that I actually listen to by him, “WORDS, WORDS, WORDS,” “I’m Bo, Yo” and “Oh, Bo,” I think he’s pretty dang hilarious, albeit very, very offensive.
MARAUDER’S MAP – MINISTRY OF MAGIC
My love for Harry Potter is so strong that I like to listen to songs about the series even though the bands and songs themselves really aren’t that great. There are only about five or so songs worth mentioning, but “Marauder’s Map” is my second favorite HP-themed song, right after “Don’t Leave” by the same band.
LET’S BE FRIENDS – EMILY OSMENT
“Let’s Be Friends” is just catchy to me. Yes, the lyrics aren’t anything to write home about, but if this song comes on in the car, I can get pretty embarrassing.
MAKE YOU BELIEVE – LUCY HALE
Even though Lucy Hale’s official music career started with a country album, I loved her voice way before that. This song is from the movie, A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. It’s one of the millions of retellings of Cinderella, and Lucy gets to show off a bit of her singing talent. This is one of my favorite songs from the movie. It’s the perfect mix of teeny bopper and inspirational.
