To me, being fearless doesn’t mean being without fear. I believe being fearless is taking on the things that scare you most. Being fearless means being unafraid and unapologetic about who you are. It means being brave enough to identify what you fear and facing it head on, even when your instincts tell you to run away.
Fearlessness is something that I believe should be admired, which is why I’m so excited to share my latest series with y’all: Fearless Friday! Every Friday, I’ll be sharing stories of brave people and how they’ve faced their fears.
Today, I’d like to introduce y’all to Llinos from The Lilac Linnet. Read her fearless story below!
I write over at The Lilac Linnet, a place where I discuss the books I’m reading, the crafts I’m making, and what’s going on in my everyday life. I also write about women’s issues and health issues. I live in the UK with my boyfriend and our guinea pigs.
What does being fearless mean to you?
Fearlessness to me is taking one step ahead, when the road is tough. It’s about trusting that you will get through, no matter what. It’s an inner strength that you can feel unfurling in your heart.
The present moment is all we ever have, and when I realised that and broke down my fears into bitesized pieces, fear lessened it’s grip on me.
Share a story where you had to overcome a fear.
When I was 12, I was diagnosed was cancer. My world was turned upside down and I was petrified. All I knew about cancer was that it killed people, and as a child I did not think I had the capacity to survive it. I thought that if I moved too quickly in my hospital bed, I would keel over and die.
Over time, as I learnt more about cancer and the chemotherapy treatment I faced, I began to think, maybe I can do this. Fear receded as the process of eliminating the cancer took over. Here I am, 16 years later, a healthy woman who is grateful for life everyday.
More recently, when I feel my anxiety burning within me, it’s as though I have to overcome my own mind. It can be draining and scary. But I remind myself that I have a 100% success rate of getting through every hard day so far!
Whose fearlessness do you admire and why?
The bloggers whose blogs I read frequently. Blogging isn’t easy and it requires passion and hard work. Luckily the blogging world has some amazing ladies who have bucketloads of creativity and determination! Putting ourselves out there constantly is definitely a brand of fearlessness.
What song makes you feel fearless?
