Listen to my summer playlist for 2019!
Summer is just around the corner, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been loving this sunny weather, but I’m over the rain, and I’m holding onto hope that the amount of rain we get continues to slow down as the weather gets nicer.
Kyle and I have lots of upcoming travel plans for the summer, and I also have so many things I want to do in Dayton, like go to festivals, try out new restaurants, check out some breweries, etc. Municipality May has been really fun because I’ve been able to do some more exploring in Dayton, but there’s even more things to do this coming summer, so I’m super looking forward to that.
Naturally, music is a huge part of how I spend my time. I just love how a song can transport you back to certain moments in your life, no matter how brief. I’m hoping these songs will be part of the soundtrack to my summer and help me remember some of the fun memories I’m sure to make. Check out my summer playlist, and let me know what songs you’ll be putting on your own summer playlist!
“ME!” by TAYLOR SWIFT feat. BRENDON URIE
I can’t stop being obsessed with Taylor’s first single for her next album. I’m impatiently waiting for new songs to come out and the album release date to be announced. This music video is so colorful and magical, and it inspired me to add more color into my life. I DIY’ed a tie-dye crop top sweatshirt that I’m obsessed with, and now I want to make everything rainbow tie-dye.
When this song came out, I literally had it on repeat for days. I listened to nothing else. While I listen to more than just “ME!” now, I still listen to it a few times daily, and I have no doubt that I’ll continue listening to it throughout the summer.
Favorite lyrics: “Baby doll, when it comes to a lover, I promise that you’ll never find another like me-e-eeee”
“MONOPOLY” by ARIANA GRANDE & VICTORIA MONET
I’m impatiently waiting until I get to go see Ariana live in Indianapolis. I’ve always liked Ariana’s songs, but my love for her has soured over the past year or so. This surprise song release had me so excited, and I just love how fun it is.
Favorite lyrics: “Treat my goals like property. Collect them like Monopoly.”
“TALK” by KHALID
Ever since I heard “Talk” it’s been in my head. I swear it gets stuck in my head All. The. Time. And I’m not even mad about it. It’s so catchy, and the sounds just make me want to jive and sing along. I love it.
Favorite lyrics: “I’ve never felt like this before. I apologize if I’m moving too far. Can we just talk?”
“TRUTH HURTS” by LIZZO
I have been boppin’ to this song ever since I heard it. “Truth Hurts” is just a crazy bop, and it makes me want to listen to more by Lizzo.
Favorite lyrics: “Yeah, I got boy problems. That’s the human in me. Bling, bling, then I solve ’em. That’s the goddess in me.” AND “You’re ‘posed to hold me down, but you’re holding me back, and that’s the sound of me not calling you back.”
“IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU” by SHAWN MENDES
I’ve been a fan of Shawn Mendes for so long, and I geeked out when I got to see him open for Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour. Every song he comes out with is so creative and catchy, and this one is no exception.
Favorite lyrics: “Is it too late to tell you that everything means nothing if I can’t have you?”
“COOL” by JONAS BROTHERS
I’ve actually never been a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers, so I didn’t freak out like the rest of female America when they announced that they were getting back together. I actually like a lot of the individual projects they did more than their old music together, but I’ve been loving the new songs they’ve been coming out with. “Cool” is my favorite so far, and I even included it in my Charleston YouTube video.
Random aside: I actually saw the Jonas Brothers when they opened for Miley Cyrus on her Hannah Montana Meets Miley Cyrus tour.
Favorite lyrics: “Oh, I feel like Post Malone when I get home. Sittin’ there winnin’ like it’s Game of Thrones.”
“I DON’T CARE” by ED SHEERAN with JUSTIN BIEBER
Even though I’m not a big Bieber fan (as far as him as a person), I love everything Ed Sheeran does, and this song is amazing. I’m eagerly awaiting the upcoming music video.
Favorite lyrics: “All the bad things disappear, and you’re making me feel like maybe I am somebody. I can deal with the bad nights when I’m with my baby, yeah.”
“HEY LOOK MA, I MADE IT” by PANIC! AT THE DISCO
I was a huge fan of Panic! when I was in high school, and I’m loving the new stuff they’re putting out now. Panic! At the Disco ended up being one of the headliners at one of the Hangout Music Festivals I went to when Calvin Harris had to cancel due to a car accident. They were amazing live and had so much energy. I would love to see them again.
Favorite lyrics: “And if you never know who you can trust, then trust me, you’ll be lonely.”
“I DON’T BELONG IN THIS CLUB” by WHY DON’T WE & MACKLEMORE
This randomly came on on a playlist that Kyle and I were listening to on a road trip, and we both instantly fell in love with it. It kind of perfectly describes how I feel when my friends drag me out to the club. As much as I love dancing, I get over it pretty quickly. Plus, it just makes me laugh because so many parts are too relatable. We’ve all been there.
Favorite lyrics: “Shoulda stayed on the sofa. Forget I hate being social.”
“DON’T GO CHANGING” by ALY & AJ
Aly & AJ came back ten years later with a new sound, look, and everything else. I’ve been absolutely loving all of their new music. I love how they’ve evolved so much from the bubblegum pop they once were. I loved them when I was younger because that’s the music I could relate to. Now that I’m older, I feel like they’ve grown up too, and their new music is a reflection of that. Their whole latest album, Ten Years, is incredible, and so is this new single.
Favorite lyrics: “Typical feeling. Who ever told you you’re not good enough? Just don’t go changing on me, babe.”
