Come live a day in the life of my dog!
Ever since we adopted Gunther in January, our lives have changed drastically. I get up earlier, we have to find someone to watch Gunther when we’re away from the house for too long, and I do a lot more laundry because dog hair literally gets everywhere. In addition to that, I also smile and laugh a lot more, and my heart is just full of so much love. I’m seriously obsessed with my dog, and I love everything that’s come along with adding him into our lives.
Between work, school, and blogging, my schedule stays pretty busy, but I always make time to give all the love to my precious pup. Gunther also lives a pretty crazy life 😉 so I wanted to give you a peek into his little world and walk you through a day in the life of my dog.
7 AM – WAKE UP AND GO OUTSIDE
Gunther usually wakes up anywhere between 7 am and 9 am. I’ve been waking up early to get schoolwork done before I go to my part-time childcare job, so these early wake-ups are perfect for me. I usually don’t even have to set an alarm because Gunther is ready and whining around 7 am.
7:15 AM – BREAKFAST
Gunther eats twice a day, and the first time is right after he goes to the bathroom in the morning. It’s super important for us to give him food and treats that provide the nutrients he needs to live a long and happy life. We adopted Gunther right after his 7th birthday, and we don’t have too much history on him, so it’s important for us to make sure he gets all the essentials to be as healthy as possible.
Wellness® CORE® Small Breed products provide natural, grain-free, protein-rich foods and treats specifically catered to the needs of small breed dogs. With their use of natural products, dogs can enjoy a huge flavor punch at meal time. They use real ingredients, like 100% raw meat pieces, to create products that your pup is sure to love. I know Gunther sure does.
7:30 AM – MORNING NAP
After eating, Gunther is ready to go back to bed. We don’t sleep overnight with him in the bed because ya girl is a heavy sleeper, and I move around a lot at night, but we do let him into bed for naps. We have a specific blanket that we put on top of our sheets and comforter for him to lay on so we can get as little dog hair on our bed as possible.
8:30 AM – WAKE UP AGAIN
Depending on what time Kyle decides to get out of bed for class, Gunther will get out of bed with him. By this time, he’s definitely ready for some much deserved cuddles and play time.
Gunther loves to chase us around the room and pretend like he’s going to play fetch, but he never actually picks up the things you throw for him. He also likes to jump on us while we roll on the floor. He’s seriously the sweetest.
Of course, all this play time calls for some treats. Gunther loves treats, and even though he’s not a beggar, he knows exactly how to look at you to make you think that he deserves one ASAP.
The Wellness® CORE® Petite Treats are perfect for Gunther because they’re smaller, and you can treat him more often without feeling like you’re overfeeding him. Plus, just like their food, Wellness® CORE® uses all natural, grain-free ingredients in their treats, so even though they taste good to your pup, you know that they’re actually getting some major protein and nutrients in their bodies.
Gunther loves the Wellness® CORE® Petite Treats with apples, lamb, and cinnamon. These ones are perfect for him because a good portion of his teeth were pulled before we adopted him, so he definitely gravitates toward the soft treats, but he’ll happily devour the harder treats too.
9:30 AM – SUNBATHE ON THE PORCH
Gunther loves being in the sunshine. Even if he’s not out for a walk, he just enjoys lying in the sun, listening to the birds, and watching dogs and people walk by. On nicer days, I’ll leave our sliding back door open so he can go in and out as he pleases.
10:30 AM – ANOTHER NAP
Gunther would literally sleep all day if we let him, but we do our best to make sure he stimulates his mind and gets as much exercise as possible. When Kyle and I are doing work at home, it’s nice that we can get work done without him pestering us for attention, so we don’t mind letting him sleep a little extra during the day. He deserves it after all that sun.
12 NOON – WALK
Before I go to work at 1 pm, I like to take Gunther for a short walk around the neighborhood. He just loves being outside, hearing all the noises and smelling all the smells. He loves making new friends and going for light jogs.
12:40 PM – TREATS!
Before I leave for work, I like to give Gunther some pets and treats so he doesn’t feel too abandoned. Luckily, he only spends a couple hours by himself before Kyle gets home.
4 PM – OUTSIDE
When Kyle gets home from class, he takes Gunther out for another short walk around the block. Gunther loooooves when Kyle gets home, and they usually have some fun play time before Kyle goes to the gym.
4:30 PM – NAP AGAIN
When Kyle leaves for the gym, I’m left to assume that Gunther burrows himself in his blanket and gets a little more shut-eye.
6 PM – WALK
When Kyle and I get home from the gym and work, respectively, we like to go on a long family walk around the neighborhood.
6:30 PM – DINNER
After a long day of snacking and napping, Gunther is ready to eat dinner. On some nights, we like to spoil him with some wet food in addition to his dry food. Wellness® CORE® has Mini Meals with different kinds of wet foods, and Gunther literally devours them when we give them to him. These Mini Meals are perfect for a little extra addition to your dog’s evening meal. They’re served in different styles, including pate, chunky, and shredded. Gunther’s favorites are the Chunky Chicken & Chicken Liver and the Shredded Chicken & Lamb, but honestly, he eats all of them.
7 PM – WHATEVER HE WANTS
After dinner, there’s pretty much no schedule. Whatever Gunther does and whatever we do with him changes nightly. Sometimes, we’ll have a lengthy play time with Gunther chasing us and running after toys
but not picking them up. Sometimes, we’ll all cuddle together and binge watch Netflix. Some nights, Kyle and I have to get work done, so he’ll cuddle up next to our feet. Sometimes, we’ll take a trip to the dog park or a pet store. Gunther loves going to new places, but he hates car rides.
Every night and day is different with Gunther, and I love that he makes our lives a little more unpredictable.
12 MIDNIGHT – BED
And of course, Gunther is ready to tuck himself in when we’re ready to hit the hay. The time that we all go to bed varies, but no matter what time we go to bed, Gunther wakes up around the same time each day to start his schedule all over again.
What are your dog’s favorite treats?
