I can’t believe 2018 is actually coming to an end. I remember January feeling like it lasted a whole year, and then as soon as it ended, it was like the months passed so quickly that I could hardly wrap my head around it. 2018 was definitely a year of change and overall emotional stress for me. I was challenged in ways I wasn’t prepared for, and I struggled a lot mentally, but in between all of that, I experienced some incredible joy and unforgettable memories. Here are some of my favorite things from 2018!
FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION | VEGAS
One of my goals for 2018 was to visit five new states, and Nevada was the first new state that I visited this year. Kyle was there for a few months for a military training, and it was tough being away from him for that long while we were both staying busy, but the light at the end of the tunnel was me being able to visit him at the end of it. My first Vegas experience was incredibly fun, and you can read all about it here.
FAVORITE FESTIVAL | OKTOBERFEST
Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to any music festival this year, but I still got to go to quite a few local festivals in both my old home in Shreveport and my new home in Dayton. My favorite was the Oktoberfest that Kyle and I went to at the Dayton Art Institute. There was live music on two stages, tons of food, and awesome creations from a number of different vendors. We also got to visit the Dayton Art Institute afterward, so that was a fun little bonus.
FAVORITE HOLIDAY CELEBRATION | THANKSGIVING
If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably already read about why Thanksgiving was extra special this year. My brother and his family currently live in England, but they flew down to Charleston to stay with my dad for a month. Kyle and I drove to Charleston for the long weekend, and I got to meet my niece, Lulu, and my sister-in-law, Flor, for the first time, and it was just as special as I wanted it to be. Lulu warmed up to me pretty quick, and I got to bond with my brother’s wife. It was also the first time that my brother, my dad, and I had all been together in ten years. The last time was at my high school graduation (yikes – when did I get so old?!). Plus it was the first Thanksgiving I spent with my dad’s side of the family in eight years, so I really just had so many extra things to be thankful for this year.
FAVORITE PARTY THROWN | 90s PARTY
One thing my friends know about me is that I lovelovelove to throw themed parties (I even mention it on my BumbleBFF profile). Knowing that I was going to leave Louisiana soon, I tried to throw as many epic parties as I could before I moved to a new place and had to work on building a new friend group. My favorite party was the 90s party that I threw, and it was just so incredibly fun. Everyone came dressed up in their 90s best. We had 90s-themed everything – food, decorations, drinks, music, etc. Everyone had a blast, and I would totally throw another 90s party in the future because it was just that much fun.
FAVORITE BEACH | ISLE OF PALMS
Sadly, I didn’t get to go to as many beaches as I have in years past. Plus, when Kyle and I went to California and were planning on going to the beach, it decided to rain during our entire trip, so no Pacific Ocean for Tiffany. I did, however, get to go to the Isle of Palms beach in Charleston more than once. Although the first time I went, I got stung by a jellyfish. IOP is the beach I went to when I lived in the area during middle school, and it’s still my favorite Charleston area beach.
FAVORITE BUCKET LIST CHECK | HARRY POTTER WORLD
Some days I still can’t believe that I actually went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It was such a magical day, and we were at Universal Studios from opening till close. We were sweating our butts off, my legs and feet hurt the next day, but it was 100% worth it. It felt like we were living in the wizarding world, and it’s just so incredible to be able to experience a book series that you love so much in such a personal way.
FAVORITE RESTAURANT | KOREAN GARDEN BBQ RESTAURANT
So I traveled to a lot of different cities this year, but my favorite restaurant isn’t even in one of the cities I visited; it’s just from a stop on a road trip. When Kyle and I were traveling from Orlando to Charleston, we stopped at a Korean BBQ restaurant in Savannah, Georgia just because I was craving Korean BBQ. This was the first time I experienced having the grill right in front of you. I still think and talk about how amazing that Korean BBQ was, and I wouldn’t mind taking a trip through Savannah just to eat it again.
FAVORITE TV SHOW | THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW
I’ve been weirdly into baking shows this year for whatever reason, and The Great British Baking Show turned into my fave. I watched the first season on my own awhile back, but I only watched half of it because I wasn’t super into it. I decided to pick up again randomly when Kyle and I were living in a hotel room when we first got to Dayton, and after that, I was hooked. I made it through all of the seasons on Netflix, including the Christmas specials. Now I’m just waiting for more episodes to come along.
FAVORITE PODCAST | WINE & CRIME
I actually stumbled upon this podcast when my blog friend, Darrian, mentioned it in her Insta stories. I gave it a listen, and I was hooked. I mentioned Wine & Crime in my favorite podcasts post, but if you haven’t heard of it, it’s a show where three girls from Minnesota get wine drunk and talk about true crime. It’s freakin’ hilarious. I was never interested in true crime before, but they make it both intriguing and fun.
FAVORITE MOVIE | PEPPERMINT
As much as I loved the new Fantastic Beasts movie, it was no surprise to me that I was going to love it. Peppermint, however, was. I went to enough movies where this was in the preview section, so it intrigued me enough to go, and then I ended up loving it so much more than I thought I would. It was one of those movies where I walked out of the theater and immediately wanted to turn around and watch it again.
FAVORITE ALBUM | SWEETENER
I don’t know when I fell in love with Ariana Grande, but lemme tell ya, it was pretty much an overnight thing. One day, I was listening to a song with Kyle, and I said, “I guess I’m an Ariana Grande fan now,” and the next thing you know, Sweetener is on repeat in my car. I was always impressed with her when she did interviews, particularly when she did the Wheel of Musical Impressions on Jimmy Fallon and her Carpool Karaoke with James Corden. I love so many of the songs on her Sweetener album, and when her single, “thank u, next” dropped, it quickly moseyed its way into my top 100 songs of the year on Spotify, and it was just released last month.
Side note: I know “thank u, next” wasn’t on the Sweetener album, but the video was so good that I decided to include it anyway.
FAVORITE BOOK | SHARP OBJECTS
I love Gillian Flynn, but I never got around to reading her first book, Sharp Objects, until this year. The main reason I wanted to read it was so I could watch the HBO special when it came out. It was one of the first books I read this year, and my brain just goes to mush overtime, so I forgot a lot of the things from the book by the time I watched the series. The HBO series is sloooooow, but it’s worth it to watch the mystery unravel. Plus, the last line of the whole show is so eerie. They picked the perfect cast.
If you haven’t read the book, it’s about a reporter named Camille Preaker who has returns to her hometown to cover a story about the murder of two preteen girls. She purposely estranged herself from her family, particularly her hypochondriac, controlling mother, and she’s pretty much a stranger to her 13-year-old step-sister, Anna. While trying to uncover what happened to these girls, she finds herself connecting with them in an unexpected way, and digging deeper into the mystery has her uncovering and reliving some demons of her own. In short, it’s crazy, y’all.
FAVORITE CONCERT ATTENDED | TAYLOR SWIFT
I mean, no surprise here. This was the fourth time I’ve seen Taylor Swift perform live, and she honestly just keeps getting better. I traveled to Houston in September to go see her Reputation Stadium Tour with two of my college roommates, Anamaria and Mandy. It was such an incredible show. I screamed so hard that I got a sore throat, but it was 20 million times worth it. I’m so excited about her Netflix special, because I will definitely be reliving the magic on TV (and probably making my boyfriend watch along with me because he needs to know).
FAVORITE YOUTUBER | GABBIE HANNA
Even though I’m not a fan of her vlogmas videos, I still love Gabbie Hanna. She is such a hilarious YouTuber who is honest about her faults and open about her flaws. She speaks openly about her anxiety and therapy, and I really admire how she takes criticism and grows from it. She tells the funniest stories, and even when they’re 20 minutes long, I’m sucked in the whole time because of her comedic way of relaying the events. While I won’t watch her vlogs, I’m all about her main channel videos, and you should be too because she’s freakin’ funny.
2018 was such an unforgettable year, which made it so hard to pick favorites. Naturally, I couldn’t pick a favorite moment, so be sure to look out for my 2018 recap comin’ atcha next week!
