In friDIARY #2, I’m sharing some experiences I’ve had for the first time and some experiences I’ve had for the last time *sobs*
Countdown to leaving Louisiana: 20 days
LAST: SAYING GOODBYE
It’s been a bittersweet week, y’all. I’ve gotten to spend some much needed time with friends, but I’ve been doing that because I’m having to say goodbye to so many of them. A few of my friends are leaving for a few weeks for a class, which means that I’ll already be gone by the time they get back. *cue overly dramatic tears*
Over the weekend, Kyle and I drove all the way to Haughton to hang out with our friend, Alex, who just bought a new house. Some other people came over, and we just sat in his living room chatting and drinking. We ended the night with some frozen buffalo wings and curly fries dipped in ranch. We didn’t leave until about 2:30 am, and honestly it’s been a little bit since I’ve seen 2 am.
Kyle’s roommate, Blaine, is also leaving for a few weeks and then he’s moving to Kansas. I’m super bummed, but I’m already scheming on how we can make a trip over there at some point in the future when we visit my mom and step-dad who just moved to Missouri. For our last night with Blaine, we watched an episode of Chopped and Iron Chef America. You have to know Blaine to understand that this is the perfect way to spend one last hang out together.
LAST: WINE & PAINT NIGHT
My roommate and I hosted a girls night at our place on Wednesday. It was so fun! We had an awesome group of girls, and we spent the night painting wine bottles while drinking wine. I made a cheese plate, naturally, we had lots of sweet and salty snacks and, of course, 90s music was playing in the background.
LAST: EATING AT MARILYNN’S PLACE
Kyle and I have made a list of places we want to eat before we hit the road. We crossed one off the list earlier this week – Marilynn’s Place. Marilynn’s is really popular for brunch, but Kyle and I are also big fans of their dinner, particularly the shrimp remoulade po-boy. While we were walking to Marilynn’s from his house, he asked me “Are you mentally ready for this to be the last time you eat at Marilynn’s Place?” The answer is no. I’ll never be ready. Honestly, one of the biggest things I’m going to miss about living in Louisiana is the food. Can anything really prepare you for leaving all of this delicious food behind? I don’t think so.
FIRST: THE SWEETEST ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE
In addition to having a list of places we want to eat before we leave Louisiana, we’ve also made a list of things we’ve never done in Shreveport/Bossier that we’d like to do before we head to Ohio. On this list was a place called Alky Therapy.
I’m so impressed by Alky Therapy’s marketing scheme, because they don’t even really have to pay for advertising. Their drinks are so pretty and their product is so unique that their customers pretty much do all their marketing for them.
Alky Therapy is literally out in the middle of nowhere Shreveport (in not the safest part of town) in a random cement building with a huge chunk missing out of it (because someone hit it with their car, I presume). The reason it’s on the list is because they make some of the most beautiful drinks I’ve ever seen. They serve everything in a plastic jar with a sticker that makes it look like it’s a medicine bottle. They have a good selection of daiquiris on their menu, and each one is served with a number of things to make them look extra intricate and beautiful.
Kyle got the strawberry lemonade, and I got the watermelon margarita. If you go to my Insta Story Highlights and click on the “318” highlights, you can see pictures and videos of our drinks. They were almost to pretty to drink. Almost. I will say this though – they are so freaking sweet. The combination of all the sugar from the drink and the candy is crazy. You’ll need some water or some salty snacks in order to attempt to finish it.
What have you been up to this week?
