It’s so easy to get caught up in all of the negativity. If you got rejected by someone or you haven’t heard back from a company you applied to or the grocery store ran out of your favorite ice cream, it can feel like the world is against you. When things just aren’t working out the way you want them to, you may feel personally victimized by the universe, so you let that negativity take over you rather than trying to rise above or put a positive spin on it.
I’ve been so guilty of this. I’ve been so guilty of this lately, like this week. It happens to all of us, because, ya know, we’re human and all. It’s okay to feel your feelings and let that energy take over for just a little bit, but then you need to snap out of it, sister. It’s so exhausting to be bogged down by anger and sadness and jealousy and frustration. It takes a toll on your face and your day and your life.
If you’re struggling with your negative emotions and you’re trying to dig yourself out of that hole of negativity, you need this list of reasons to be happy to help get you out of that funk right now.
– You’re alive. This is something you should always be grateful for.
– 60 Second Docs. I’ve been watching all of these minute-long videos ever since the page was created. It shares 60-second documentaries from diverse and unique people around the world, like the man who started a fighting program for people with Parkinson’s or the woman who runs a dog retirement home or the woman who opened a brewery that hires people with disabilities.
– Every failure you’ve ever had, every hurdle you’ve jumped over, every hardship you’ve ever had, you’ve gotten through it, and it’s made you so much smarter and stronger.
– Being happy will make you more productive. No one gets anything of substance done when they’re upset.
– Everyone you meet in your life knows something that you don’t. That means that for every person you know, you have some sort of knowledge that they don’t. You so smart!
– Wine exists. I don’t know about you, but wine always puts me in a better mood.
– You have people in your life who love you and value you. Even if you don’t want to talk to them about what you’re going through, it’s a comfort knowing that if you wanted to open up about it, they’d be there for you.
– You are beautiful.
– It’s spring! The sun is shining all bright and giving you a million reasons to spend more time outside. Get out of the house and soak in that sunshine.
– You have a place to live, clothes to wear, food to eat, a bed to sleep in and money in your bank account. There are so many people who see these things as luxuries. Never forget how lucky you are to have these things.
– You get to define your own success.
– The world is full of so much beauty! Between the blue skies, the starry nights, the gorgeous landscapes and the people who walk this earth, there’s so much beauty to appreciate.
– Food. Just food.
– These guys experienced racism while waiting for a friend at a Philadelphia Starbucks. Instead of turning it into an ugly legal battle, they settled with the City of Philadelphia for $1 each and had them promise to establish a $200,000 public high school program for young entrepreneurs. Plus Starbucks will be giving a sum of money that benefits their online program with Arizona State University. And Starbucks will close 8,000 of its stores on May 29th for racial-bias training. Talk about a huge impact.
– You’ve made a bad decision or two (or a thousand) and you got through every single one of them.
– Strange animal friendships. Seriously, these give me life.
– You have so much more life to live, and you have the ability to make it awesome.
– You have time to learn new skills and build on the ones you already have. Your opportunities for self-improvement are endless.
– Take a second to think about the best day of your life you’ve lived so far. Yeah…that happened, and there are even better days to come.
– That feeling you get after getting a full night’s rest.
– Tomorrow is always an opportunity to start anew.
– Social media and how it allows us reconnect with people we once lost touch with.
– That feeling of cleanliness after a long hot shower or a relaxing bath.
– New humans are coming into the world every day, and with each birth comes the opportunity to make the world even better than the generation prior.
– There are so many movements being made toward equality for all races, genders, sexual orientations, religious affiliations, etc.
– An organization called Dignity on Wheels was created to help homeless individuals rebuild their lives by providing them with facilities to shower and do their laundry. They have trailers that change locations daily that allow people to come in and take a shower for free and get their clothes washed. What a wonderful way to help the homeless get back on their feet.
– Nobody is perfect. Stop obsessing over your imperfections because there’s not one person in this world who is perfect or 100% secure about how they look, their skills and abilities, etc.
– That feeling you get when you laugh until you can’t breathe.
– Every day, advances in medicine are being made to find cures for diseases and conditions like cancer and Alzheimer’s.
– There are people in your life who envy you because of your beauty, your cooking skills, your likability, your ability to articulate yourself, etc. Never lose sight of the things you’re good at and the advantages you have, especially the ones you’ve earned. You’re awesome for multiple reasons. Don’t forget it.
– You are a human, which means you’re part of the most intelligent species on the planet. You go, Glen Coco!
– With advances in technology, we now live in a world that thrives on immediate results and advances for even faster results are being made every single day.
– There is nothing that happens to you that you cannot overcome. No matter what. You are stronger than you believe, and you can get through it.
– You have the ability to make someone’s day better. The smallest of gestures can mean so much to the right people. Even if you’re not having a good day, that feeling you get when you improve someone else’s can make yours a lot better.
– Nothing lasts forever.
– There are already so many people out there who are working diligently at tearing other people down and spreading negativity in the world. Don’t be one of those people.
– According to science that some people did at some point in time, happier people get sick less often, and when they do get sick, they feel better faster.
– The vastness and beauty of the ocean and that feeling you get while looking at it as you squish your toes in the sand.
– That feeling you get when you’re laughing about something silly with someone you love.
– Music and its ability to speak to all of your emotions, both good and bad.
– Freedom!
– Weekends. No, you shouldn’t live for the weekend; you should try to make your entire week awesome. But let’s be real, weekends are the best.
– Today is a clean slate. It’s the first and only time you get to live it. Today could be the best day of your life, and you just don’t know it yet.
– At the end of each day, make a list of everything that made you smile that day. When you need a pick-me-up like you did today, go back and read that list and remember that each day holds something for you to smile about.
– That feeling you get when someone you haven’t spoken to in a long time reaches out to you for no reason at all other than they miss you and want to catch up.
– You have friendships and relationships that are stronger than the stories you tell online. Social media is awesome, but pictures and a few words can never do justice to genuine relationships that are formed off-screen.
– You don’t have to wait until the start of a new year to become a better you. Every day is a clean slate and a chance for you to make whatever changes you want to get to the place you want to be.
– It’s never too late.
– That feeling you get when you blow out your birthday candles and reflect on all of the awesome things you did when you were the age prior.
– Literally no one else in the world like you exists. You’re the only person who looks exactly like you. You’re the only person with your skills and abilities. You’re the only person with your passions and ambitions. You’re the only you. You’re unique, and that’s something to be celebrated.
What are some things that make you happy?
