2017 was an awesome year. Check out all of my favorites from 2017!
I can’t believe how amazing 2017 has been. I look back at 2015 and remember how awful of a year that was. 2016 was a very transitional year where I was trying to dig myself out of the awful hole I was in in 2015. 2017 was the year when things finally felt like they were looking up, and I’m so grateful that things just keep getting better. It was a year full of awesome, and it was so hard to narrow down my faves.
Favorite Country Visited
I had a tough time choosing between the Bahamas and Bermuda, but I spent so much time in the Bahamas that really, it was a clear choice. I visited four different island in the Bahamas, and I made so many memories from swimming with dolphins to riding horses on the beach to going to Atlantis and going on random adventures. The Bahamas will will always have a part of my heart.
Favorite Place in America Visited
KEY WEST, FLORIDA
I changed this answer three times before settling on Key West. Houston and New Orleans were also close contenders. I chose Key West because honestly, it is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited, and I 100% would love to go back one day. I rented a bike and explored the island, had one of the most delicious brunches I’ve ever had and I went to Mile 0.
HANGOUT MUSIC FESTIVAL
When I first picked this as a category, I was actually going to mention the Red River Revel, but then I stumbled upon pictures from Hangout, and I was like, nope. Clear winner. I love music festivals so much, and I got to see some incredible artists at Hangout this year. I can’t wait for my next music festival.
Favorite Holiday Celebration
I was originally going to put Mardi Gras here because it’s one of my favorite holidays, and I had a blast sharing my love for the holiday with everyone on the Carnival Elation, but I celebrated Halloween so much this year that’s hard to even consider any other holiday. I went to several parties, had so many costumes and then on the actual day, I stayed in with my boyfriend and watched Netflix.
Favorite Party Thrown
Throwing parties is my favorite, but since I spent most of the year working on the ship, I didn’t get the opportunity to plan many parties. Of the three I planned while back at home, the promotion party I threw for my friends was by far my favorite. It was such a fun way to celebrate the accomplishments of some of my favorite people. We spent all day at the pool and all night out dancing. It was the perfect last day before I left for my second ship.
HORSESHOE BAY BEACH IN BERMUDA
This is easily one of my top ten beaches I’ve ever been to. I lovelovelove going to the beach, and Horseshoe Bay Beach (aka the Pink Sand Beach) was absolutely beautiful. I visited Bermuda on my very last cruise working for Carnival, and I couldn’t have asked for a better last port day.
Favorite Bucket List Check
SWIM WITH DOLPHINS
This is seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life. It made me love dolphins more than I already do. I’m so fascinated by these beautiful creatures, and being able to swim with them and spend time with them and then hang out on a private beach was pretty incredible. What is my life?
My boyfriend and I went on our fourth (technically fifth if you count speed dating) date here, and it’s been one of my favorite restaurants ever since. We were frequent brunchers for awhile. We even helped them throw a Halloween shindig there. I’m obsessed with The Levee because it’s a farm-to-table restaurant, and the owners grow all of their own vegetables. The menu changes depending on what they’re growing, and I’ve honestly never had a bad meal there.
Favorite Philanthropic Organization
SHREVEPORT BOSSIER RESCUE MISSION
I started volunteering with the SB Rescue Mission in November, and I’ve loved it. The people there have been so lovely, and every time I come, they’re so welcoming. This is an amazing organization, and I’m so happy to be involved. They are doing wonderful things for the homeless community in Shreveport/Bossier City, and volunteering humbles me and reminds me to focus on the things that are important in life.
Favorite TV Show
THIS IS US
Really, This Is Us is just one the best shows ever made. I’m impatiently waiting for next month when it starts back up again. There are just so many untold stories and unknowns in general. It’s so heartbreaking but also heartwarming. If you haven’t watched this show, do yourself a favor and get on it. Seriously.
I think 2017 has been such an uplifting year for women. I was nervous that I wasn’t going to like this movie because of all the hype surrounding it. My hopes were high, and I was not disappointed.
REPUTATION by TAYLOR SWIFT
I don’t think I need to go into a whole spiel of my love for Taylor Swift. I don’t think anyone is surprised by this selection.
SCRAPPY LITTLE NOBODY by ANNA KENDRICK
I’m sad to report that I only read four books this year, but of the four, Scrappy Little Nobody was my fave. Anna Kendrick is just such a doll. He’s beautiful, hilarious, talented and amazing. I love how real she is, and I high-key want to be her best friend.
I love Grace Helbig because she is 100% true to herself. She doesn’t give into all the YouTube gimmicks. She does things because she wants to, and she makes people laugh along the way.
I really wanted to pick a favorite moment, but that was super impossible. Instead, you can read my 2017 recap comin’ atcha next week.
