I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been listening to Christmas music since October. Yes, I’m one of those. Don’t get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving, and I respect the holiday and celebrate it as best I can, but Christmas season is what it’s all about for me. I love the joy that surrounds the holidays, and if I can get that joy as early as October, I’m going to do it.
My office-mate and I have been listening to Christmas music since the day after Thanksgiving. We’re both Christmas fanatics, and I’ve toyed with the idea more than once to get a mini Christmas tree for our office. I would if our office wasn’t like the Room of Requirement. I swear, our office is like a storage closet, but I digress.
Between seeing some beautiful Christmas lights in Houston, Texas and Natchitoches, Louisiana, getting crafty making a Christmas tree advent calendar with the boyfriend, singing Christmas carols all friggin’ day and planning a Christmas-themed party for my birthday, I am all up in the Christmas spirit, and it all started with my little Christmas playlist.
“A HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS” by BURL IVES
I don’t think anyone can top this version of of this song. Random story: When I was younger, my family had this book of 500-ish Christmas songs on a number of Christmas CD’s, and this song was on it, of course. It came with lyric books, and for this song it said “Somebody waits for you. Kiss her/him once for me,” and I didn’t realize I was supposed to pick one or the other, so I used to sing “Kiss her-him once for me.” Yup. Smart cookie, I was.
“WINTER WONDERLAND/DON’T WORRY BE HAPPY” MASH-UP by PENTATONIX & TORI KELLY
I’m a long-time fan of Pentatonix (moment of silence for Avi leaving the group. Matt Sallee has some big shoes to fill.), and their Christmas albums are among some of my favorite songs sung by them. I love both of these songs, and the addition of “Don’t Worry Be Happy” to this Christmas classic just makes you want to bop a little more.
“WONDERFUL CHRISTMASTIME” by PAUL MCCARTNEY
It’s hard to beat this Christmas bop.
“BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE” by IDINA MENZEL & MICHAEL BUBLE
I love this song so much, and I’m still waiting for my boyfriend to agree to sing it with me at Christmas karaoke. This is one of my favorite versions of this song. They’re both just so talented. It’s hard not to love it, and the music video is so adorable.
“WINTER WONDERLAND/HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS” MASH-UP by SNOOP DOGG & ANNA KENDRICK
I feel like more people should appreciate this mash-up. The fact that they actually sang an entire song instead of just the 30-seconds we got in Pitch Perfect 2 is just amazing. I love this.
“HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS” by SAM SMITH
Anything that comes out of Sam Smith’s mouth is gold. I love when artists I already like come out with Christmas songs and sing Christmas covers. It makes me like them so much more.
“I WANNA BE YOUR CHRISTMAS” by ANDREW ALLEN
I love Andrew Allen’s voice so much, and this song is equal parts Christmas and love song.
“CHRISTMAS (BABY PLEASE COME HOME)” by MICHAEL BUBLE
It wouldn’t be a Christmas playlist if I didn’t include Michael Buble…twice. I absolutely love his version of this song.
“CHRISTMAS C’MON” by LINDSEY STIRLING & BECKY G
I’m such a big fan of Lindsey Stirling. She’s so dang talented, and I was pretty bummed when she didn’t win this season of Dancing with the Stars. I don’t actually watch the show, but I watched all of her dances on YouTube, and she was so freakin’ incredible. Lindsey Stirling is on my list of people I’d love to see live. She’s just such a quirky and sweet person with some mad talent on the violin. This song is just super, super cute.
“SANTA TELL ME” by ARIANA GRANDE
I always think I’m not a fan of Ariana Grande, but every time one of her songs comes on, I jam my little heart out. I saw someone do a cover of this song on YouTube, and I thought the lyrics were cute, so naturally I ended up adoring the original version.
What are your favorite Christmas songs?
