Anyone who’s been in love will probably agree that falling in love is one of the best, if not the best, feelings in the world. It’s indescribable because everyone falls and feels differently, but there’s so much joy and happiness and euphoria that comes along with it.
When I’m in love, I sing more often. I sing when I’m doing monotonous tasks. I sing songs that don’t actually exist and turn phrases and sentences into sing-song melodies. I listen to love songs more often because I can relate to them in a way that I wasn’t able to before.
I WANT TO LOVE YOU – LENACHKA
There are certain songs that Spotify introduces to me that I absolutely just fall in love with, and this is one of them. When this song first showed up on my Discover Playlist, I had it on repeat for a long time. It’s just a beautiful ballad basically just talking about how she wants to love every single part of this person. Lenachka sings about a person who is used to keeping their walls up when it comes to love, and it insinuates that she usually is too, but she wants to love him, so she’s willing to push past that uncomfortable feeling in order to do that. The lyrics speak to me, and the song itself is just so pretty.
Favorite lyrics: “Don’t wanna wonder what we shoulda coulda been. A perfect fit? A big mistake? Doesn’t matter, I have to know either way.”
I THINK I’M IN LOVE – KAT DAHLIA
The obsession of this song was too real from the very beginning. The words are so powerful and real. She’s basically describing that feeling you get when you start falling for someone. Love isn’t something you can just switch on or off, so the “think” part of the song is just very realistic to me. At the very beginning, Kat sings about how her man asks her directly about how she feels, but she denies it out loud and even to herself a little bit even though a part of her is pretty sure that she’s fallen hard for him.
Favorite lyrics: “Baby, I’m fallin’, I hope you catch me when I land.”
UNAPOLOGETICALLY – KELSEA BALLERINI
I first heard this song when I was still working on the Carnival Sunshine. I had barely started dating my boyfriend, and even though I hadn’t fallen in love with him yet, I did fall in love with this song and the idea of falling for him that much.
I’m a huge fan of Kelsea Ballerini in general, and when she released this latest album, I played it on repeat that whole week, even making my boyfriend listen to this song in spite of his distaste for country music. This song in particular is about how the world doesn’t really understand their relationships, but she doesn’t care because she’s unapologetically in love, and even if it doesn’t end well, it doesn’t matter. She would rather feel this feeling wholeheartedly than wonder if she should have pursued it, and that’s how love should be.
Favorite lyrics: “I’m unapologetically all in, from the second that I started fallin’. And it don’t even phase me when they call me crazy.”
PERFECT – ED SHEERAN
This is easily one of my favorite songs by Ed Sheeran. It’s just so pretty and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. This is one of those songs you listen to and hope that someone will feel that way about you one day. My favorite lyrics that I’m sharing below tug at my little heartstrings because my boyfriend and I like to spontaneously dance together all the time, so I just love these words a little extra.
Favorite lyrics: “Baby, I’m dancing in the dark with you between my arms. Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song.”
CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT – TAYLOR SWIFT
This was my favorite of Taylor’s pre-releases from reputation. She starts it by singing about a few bad things have happened in her life as of late (circa 2016) so she just kind of disappeared, but then she meets Joe. There’s hesitation to fall into the relationship, but once she does, it’s as close to perfect. I love seeing Taylor happy, and I absolutely love this song.
Favorite lyrics: “And I know I make the same mistakes every time. Bridges burn. I never learn. At least I did one thing right.”
PUPPY LOVE – THIS WILD LIFE
This song is reminiscent of young love. It’s a guy singing to a girl about how he’s a mess, and even though she seems to have it much more together than he does, she still loves him. It also references It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is one of my favorite shows, so instant love.
Favorite lyrics: “Cause when I mess up, you never give up your love. Yeah, I’m a f*ck up, but you swear I’m enough.”
HEARTBEAT – CARRIE UNDERWOOD
I didn’t realize how big of a Carrie Underwood fan I was until I saw her in concert last year. She’s just a beautiful human with an incredible voice, and apparently I love her. This song was a recent release at the time I saw Carrie Underwood in concert, and it was one of my favorites to see live.
The song starts with her saying that she doesn’t mind when they’re together and spending time with other people or out and about on the town, but what she really wants is to just get lost with him in such a way that they’re isolated from everyone else and just enjoying the company of each other. Lovelovelove this.
Favorite lyrics: “I wanna feel you holding onto me and make me hold my breath.”
EVERY LITTLE THING – RUSSELL DICKERSON
This is a little more of an upbeat country love song. It equally gives you the feels and makes you want to dance/belt all the words in your car. He’s basically just doting about this woman he’s in love with and sharing all of the things he loves about her.
Favorite lyrics: “She’s easy like Sunday morning and wild like Saturday night.”
LOVE IS BEGINNING – IMAGINARY FUTURE
The music and the lyrics of this are just absolutely adorable. It’s so light-hearted and sweet and perfectly describes the beginning of a happy relationship.
Favorite lyrics: “We’ve found something worth living for. I’ve got my head in the clouds. Oh my love. Love is beginning now.”
LATELY – DAN + SHAY
And another country love song. Dan + Shay are one of my favorite modern country duos. In this song, they’re singing about a man who loves a woman, but also apologizing for not saying it or showing it as much as he should and taking this time to remind her that he’ll always feel that way.
Favorite lyrics: “And I love what’s outside and everything that’s underneath. Have I told you that I miss you every second I’m asleep? And I love the way you smiling when I kiss you in my dreams.”
FOREVER – MATT HIRES
I went solo to a Matt Hires concert on a whim, and this is one of my favorite songs by him, so seeing it performed live in a small, intimate setting was surreal. In this song, he’s basically singing about wanting to freeze time in a way and just stay in that moment with this person forever. I know in my own relationship, there are little moments that I wish I could just hold onto forever, and this song is sort of a reflection of that.
Favorite lyrics: “I only want to hold tonight forever.”
