This Friday, October 7th, is World Smile Day, but I like to celebrate the holiday pretty much everyday year-round. I can’t remember a day where I didn’t smile at least twenty times. I’m lucky to have amazing people in my life that bring me so much happiness and to have hobbies like blogging and reading
and Netflixing that never fail to make me smile.
MY ALMA MATER (BABY!)
I loved my college experience, as I’m sure you know if you’ve been reading my blog over the years. I’ve written about my experience as an orientation leader, various parties, trips and experiences I had while in college and the incredible people I spent time with while there. This past weekend, I visited Louisiana Tech’s campus for the first time in years, and I had a blast. I didn’t get to visit my brick, walk around the quad, see the seal or splash around the Lady of the Mist, but I did get to tailgate with a few of my friends (none of which went to Tech) and watch the bulldawgs take down UTEP.
When choosing a school, it was always important to me that I loved it because, unlike the rest of the schools you attend prior, you actually get to pick the school you go to. I never understood people who didn’t fall in love with their schools, because if they didn’t like it, they had the option to go somewhere else. I’m lucky in that I can confidently say I had the best college experience possible, and I’m more than grateful for that.
Speaking of, writing in general also makes me smile. I love writing in every form. Blogging is obviously at the top of that list, but I also love writing articles for websites, magazines, newspapers, etc. I also keep a journal. Some months I write in it more than others, but I’m working on being consistent with it. I enjoy fiction writing, but part of me thinks I enjoy thinking up the ideas more than actually spending the time to put them to paper. I did participate in and finish NaNoWriMo a few years ago. It was an exhausting month, but I was so happy to finish a novel even though I haven’t put much work into editing in or trying to get it published.
Now that it’s fall, I plan on taking every opportunity possible to spend time outside. Even though fall in Louisiana is still pretty warm, it’s the kind of warm that makes you want to throw on some jeans or some shorts and cardigan and drink a hot beverage outside while reading a book. I love Louisiana falls, and I enjoy soaking in all of the Vitamin D and just relaxing.
Even though I miss my baby, Molly, everyday, my love of puppies has definitely not gone away. I take every opportunity to love on all puppies everywhere. My roommate has two dogs, and I make sure I soak in all the love when I get home from doing anything. There aren’t many things that bring me as much happiness as seeing a dog being so excited to see you when you get home.
Y’all, I can’t say enough how much I love getting things in the mail. Anytime I have friends that are going out of town, I always ask them to send me a postcard because I love getting postcards sent from all over the world. Plus, it’s a cheap souvenir and allows me to get some snail mail. Now that I have a few friends that are deployed and some that have moved overseas, I’m taking full advantage of my love getting things in the mail. Even though WiFi is a thing, and we could just talk on Facebook, there’s just something about getting a handwritten note from someone you care about. My hand has been cramping from writing all the letters, but it’s so worth it, because I love sending mail as much as I love receiving it.
It doesn’t matter who it is, as long as they’re good and entertaining, I really enjoying seeing live bands perform. I have such a wide range of tastes, and I’ve seen a variety of different artists. I’ve seen pop artists, country artists, rap, hip hop, rock, cover bands, DJs. I like it all. Check out a few concert recaps: Taylor Swift, Hangout Music Fest, Austin City Limits, Hippie Sabotage, James Bay, Maddie & Tae. Click here for more music posts!
I recently went to the I Love the 90’s Tour with my friend, Rachael, and we got to see many old school artists live, including All-4-One, Salt N Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Coolio, Rob Base and Tone Loc. We had so much fun, and I flipped out when All-4-One was on stage. That seriously brought me back to my childhood. I grew up on 90’s hip hop. When All-4-One covered a Boyz II Men song, I could hardly contain my happiness. It was such a great night.
This barely hits the surface of the things that make me smile. Lately, I’ve barely stopped smiling because I’m so happy about the way things are going in my life right now. I’ve been feeling more than lucky. With the way that things are going, I may be celebrating World Smile Day every day for the rest of forever.
What are some things that make you smile?
