It’s finally December, and I’m officially in Christmas mode. As soon as Thanksgiving was over, I was already listening to Christmas songs, and I spent Black Friday shopping for and wrapping Christmas presents, writing out Christmas cards and putting up my Christmas tree.
I love listening to Christmas music, and I could listen to “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Last Christmas” and “Santa Baby” all day, but I also love when artists come out with their own Christmas songs. It puts a little spin on the traditional, and the lyrics are often more modern and relevant.
These are a few of my favorite non-traditional Christmas songs:
TEXT ME MERRY CHRISTMAS by STRAIGHT NO CHASTER feat. KRISTEN BELL
When this song first came out, I was so obsessed with it. My love for it recently came up in my TimeHop and became obsessed with it all over again. It’s such a modern Christmas song that I think all the youngsters will love, but admittedly, I love it too. It’s so fun!
I WANNA BE YOUR CHRISTMAS by ANDREW ALLEN
My two favorite songs by Andrew Allen are “Sooner” and “Loving You Tonight,” but his Christmas song is definitely up there. What I like even more about this song is the music video. Andrew Allen made a super cheesy homemade music video for this Christmas song, and it’s kind of perfect.
CHRISTMAS TIME by CHRISTINA AGUILERA
Christina Aguilera’s ‘My Kind of Christmas’ album was the first Christmas album that I ever owned, and I literally love every song. It goes without saying that she is a powerhouse, and she didn’t tone it down for her Christmas album.
BLAME IT ON THE SNOW by TIFFANY HOUGHTON
I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of this music video (it’s kinda boring. Meh.), but I adore this song. Tiffany Houghton is so cute and talented (and she has the best name ever), and this is probably one of my favorite songs by her.
CHRISTMAS TONIGHT by DAVE BARNES feat. HILARY SCOTT
I love both of Dave Barnes’s Christmas albums. He’s so talented, and his voice is absolutely incredible. I adore this music video. Jennifer Love Hewitt stars in it, and she is absolutely fabulous.
COLD DECEMBER NIGHT by MICHAEL BUBLE
If Michael Buble’s Christmas album was the only Christmas album to ever exist, I’d be okay with it, because it’s seriously my absolute favorite. There aren’t many artists that have put out Christmas albums that I can listen to from beginning to end without skipping a song, but I listen to his Christmas album when it’s not even Christmas. I just love it.
LITTLE DANCER by LEROY SANCHEZ
I’m not even sure if this is considered a Christmas song, but it says “Christmas Eve” in it, so I’m counting it. This song was recommended to me on one of the Discover Weekly playlists on Spotify. It’s just such a pretty song, and I’ve been listening to it a lot since I first heard it.
SILVER NIGHTS by SABRINA CARPENTER
I’m not going to lie – I adore Sabrina Carpenter. I love so many of her songs, and her Christmas song is no exception. I’m waiting for her to put a music video out for it, because I’m sure it would be as adorable as she is. I also follow her on Instagram, and she’s flawless. I don’t even care that she’s a decade younger than me because I’m trying to shop in her closet.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS by *NSYNC
Would it be a Christmas playlist without including this song?
MY ONLY WISH (THIS YEAR) by BRITNEY SPEARS
As soon as I started listening to Christmas music this year, this song was one of the first that I played. It just brings me back!
