In one word, 2015 was nuts:
I made some incredible memories…and others that still make me cringe.
I learned a lot about myself…after getting lost in the worst way.
I met some fantastic people…as well as some toxic ones.
I went on a journey of self-discovery…that I’m still traveling on.
Needless to say, I’m determined to make 2016 a year for the books. Even though I didn’t get to travel internationally this year, I still traveled to many places within the country and got inspired by both my friends that followed the dreams that took them to new cities and also strangers whose stories differ so much from mine. This year, I accomplished only a little more than half of my goals, but next year, I plan to accomplish much, much more.
Learn how to arm knit
I can thank Nina for this goal. She arm knit two things while I visited her, and she made it look so neat and quick that I definitely want to learn myself. Everyone is getting arm knit scarves for all birthdays and holidays next year.
Visit a coffee shop at least twice a week
I’d like to spend more time reading and writing, but it’s hard for me to concentrate at home. After visiting Tyler and him showing me his makeshift office at his favorite coffee shop, I decided that I want to do the same and learn the names of the workers, have a usual order and have a little makeshift office of my own.
Take Molly on at least three walks a week
Even though Molly spends a lot of time outside, she doesn’t run around or work out a lot. Next year, I’d really like to take her on more walks and help her stay fit. Admittedly, she has gotten a bit fluffy.
Take at least three trips
Ideally, these trips would be out of the country, but I have to keep reminding myself that there are plenty of awesome things to do within the US too. Considering the number of trips I took this year, I think planning to make three trips in 2016 is actually aiming pretty low.
Create a writing portfolio
I’d like to create both an electronic and a hard copy writing portfolio to send to future clients and also for job interviews.
Create an event planning portfolio
Event planning is something that I would love love love to do. Aside from writing, organizing events is a definite passion of mine. I’ve planned some fun events, but I have yet to create a proper portfolio.
Organize my photos
I have tons of pictures, and during a boring weekend in the middle of the year, I started putting all of my photos in order. On the back of all of them, I’d like to write down the memories behind each of the photos. It’s definitely taking longer than I thought it would.
Organize my emails
Let’s be honest, my emails are a cluster-fluff. I want to reorganize my folders and unsubscribe from many of the companies and people that send me pointless emails.
Make a budget and stick to it
This is something that I’ll make a goal every year, and I’m hoping 2016 is the year that I finally stick to it.
Create a blog planner
There are lots of good blog planners out there, but I’ve been having trouble finding one that meets all of my specific needs, which is why I want to create one of my own. I would also like to incorporate things into my planner to use in my daily life as well. I have so many ideas, and I’ve already put some into play. I’m excited to see the finished product.
Update my media kit
My current one is so tired and boring that I don’t even like sending it out to potential clients. My media kit definitely needs a facelift.
Gain followers on my social media accounts
I have personal goals for each of my social media accounts for 2016.
Increase the amount of money I make from blogging
Each year that I’ve been blogging, I’m happy to say that I’ve made more money than the last. I’m hoping to grow the amount of money I make from my blog by a percentage that I won’t disclose here.
Post a video at least once a week
My YouTube schedule is all over the place, and even though I don’t have that many followers or views, I’d still like to up my YouTube game and aim to post at least once a week.
Create a YouTube filming spot
Right now, I go between filming in front of my bookshelf and at my dining room table. I’d like to create a space that has a cute, simple background for all of my videos.
Caption all of my videos
YouTube’s automatic captioning is absolutely horrible. I’d like to go through all of my videos and caption them properly for those who can’t hear or prefer to watch videos with the caption on.
When I was growing up, we moved around a lot. Because of that, it was easy to say goodbye to unnecessary things each time we left a different state or country. Because I’ve been living in Louisiana for ten years now, I’ve accumulated way too much stuff. I’d like to get rid of a good portion of it and start living a more minimalist lifestyle. Of course, my movies and books are exceptions.
I don’t want to put any specifications on this because I know that will inevitably lead to failure. I just want to workout more than I do now (which is not at all). I plan to join a gym, attend workout classes and start some weight training (the weight training is only because it’s doctor recommended).
Wake up earlier
This also means I’d have to to go bed earlier. I need to get on a proper sleep schedule and try to accomplish more things in the morning.
I didn’t read nearly as much as I wanted to in 2015. Even if I listen to more audiobooks, I’d still like to read/listen to more books because there are so many pieces of literature that I need to experience.
I went in and out of journaling this year, and I’d really like to start recording more of my day-to-day activities and feelings so I can go back and reminisce.
Honestly, this doesn’t even scratch the surface of all of my 2016 goals. I’m determined to make 2016 a year of positive growth.I have so many ideas that I can’t wait to put into action, and it all starts tomorrow!
What are some of your goals for the new year?
