If it’s summer and you didn’t go to the beach, did summer even really happen? The answer is no. I always try to go to the beach at least once every summer, but unfortunately, I don’t live anywhere close to one. The closest one is about six hours away in Galveston, Texas, and it’s not exactly a pretty beach. When I go to the beach, it’s usually to Gulf Shores in Alabama, and I always have a good time.
This summer, I went to the beach with my family, and we traveled to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, which is right next to Destin. My parents were celebrating their 20-year anniversary, and my mom was also celebrating her birthday.
The first day we got there, it was raining, and the forecast said it was going to keep raining for the rest of the trip. Luckily, it didn’t happen. It ended up being all sunshine-y, and we were able to go to the beach a couple times. The sand was so beautiful, but the first day, the water was full of seaweed from the storm the day before. The water still felt awesome though. The second day we went to the beach, the waves were torrential, and I accidentally had a nip slip. Classy, I know.
Like I mentioned, my mom and step-dad were celebrating their anniversary, which was on July 30. My mom’s friends threw them a party, and they made tons of food and got them a cake. I enjoyed a margarita and some pancit and other Filipino foods.
We also went deep sea fishing during our trip. It was my first time deep sea fishing, and I have to say…I suck at it. I got so tired while reigning it in. I also only caught one fish, and it was so small that they took it off the hook and said they’d use it for a bait fish. It was also a two-hour ride to get to the first spot to fish, and I fell asleep so ugly. That’s nothing compared to how I slept on the way back though. I would wake up randomly and eat some candy or chips and then just go back to sleep. It really wasn’t cute. I had fun, but I think I ought to stick to regular fishing though. Not to imply that I’m good at that, because I’m not.
Food is always one of my favorite parts of traveling. I pretty much ate a ton of seafood and so much Filipino food. It was all good, and now I’m craving it.
Hanging out at the beach was definitely my favorite part of the trip. I just love the beach and hope to live near one again someday.
Did you go to the beach this summer? What vacations did you go on this year?
